Discussion:
Did everyone have a good Christmas so far?
Was Santa good to you?
Why do we celebrate Christmas? Whose birthday is it?
When Jesus grew up he became a teacher. What was the most important thing he taught people? (to love him and one another)
He didn’t just mean your Mom and Dad or your brothers and sisters and friends. He also meant all other people in the world – especially the poor people.
Santa comes to those people too but Santa only comes once a year. Some people need help every day of the year, not just on Christmas.
Did you know there are children in this world who don’t have enough to eat, or clothing to wear? Who don’t have a nice house to live in and who can’t go to school because there is no money for these things? Jesus wants us to love these people too.
How can we love these poor people when we don’t even know them?
Grandma and Grandpa knew you would want to help them so we sent money to a place called the Heifer Project. We asked them to buy a goat for a poor boy and his family and give it to them. There was a gift card around the goat’s neck that said “With love from, Aiden, Riley, Mackenzie, Miranda and Mara”.
How can a little goat help a poor family?
A goat can give lots of milk for a family to drink.
They can make cheese to eat from this milk too.
When the goat gets a haircut, his hair can be woven into clothes for the family too.
The important thing is the extra milk and cheese and cloth can be sold to their neighbors and friends so the family can have money for shoes and a decent house and school expenses.
Also when the goat is a grown-up and has babies, the family can give a baby goat to another poor family so they can have all these good things too.
This is how Jesus meant for us to love one another and now because of your present of a goat, a poor boy and his family can have a better life.
